asked the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry the amount of mackerel caught within our 200-mile limit in each of the last five years.
Written Answers. - Mackerel Catches.
39.
Catches of fish are not recorded by reference to 200-mile zones but to ICES (International Council for the Exploration of the Sea) zones which are the internationally accepted statistical areas for compilation of catch data. Information on catches of sea fish as recorded by my Department relates only to catches taken by Irish fishermen according to ICES zones. However, the following is the information requested on the total mackerel catch, as compiled by ICES, for those ICES zones which fall in part within the exclusive fishery limits of the State in respect of the past five years.
