Vol. 336 No. 6

Written Answers. - Mayo Company Closure.

537.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if he is aware of the threatened closure of a company (details supplied) in Westport, West Mayo, which will result in the loss of 60 jobs in an area already suffering from heavy job losses; and the action he proposes to take in this matter.

I am aware of the proposed closure of the factory in question. I should point out that the Dubarry company has decided to close the Westport plant mainly because of a serious downturn in the market for its products. The IDA have been endeavouring for some time to secure a takeover of the Westport plant by a suitable footwear company and their efforts in this regard are being strongly sustained.
