Vol. 336 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Galway Projects.

131.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware of the deplorable state of the building industry in County Galway; and if the Government will provide the necessary finance for the following project that has been deferred: Office of Public Works area engineering work at Loughrea.

The provision of an area engineering headquarters at Loughrea must await the outcome of a review by the Department of Posts and Telegraphs of their requirements for area engineering headquarters throughout the country.

337.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the deplorable state of the building industry in County Galway; and if the Government will provide the necessary finance for the following projects that have been deferred: Lackagh national school; VEC science room at Griffin Road, Galway; Clarinbridge national school; and Gort national school.

The position regarding building projects at the national schools referred to in the question is as follows:—

Lackagh N.S. — The project is in progress at present.

Clarinbridge Convent N.S. — Tenders which had been received by the Commissioners of Public Works for the extension to this school are at present under examination to see whether they can be accepted for the revised accommodation requirements of one classroom plus general purposes room.

Gort N.S. — Tenders have been received by the Commissioners of Public Works and are under consideration in that office.

The question of financial provision for a science room at the vocational school at Fr. Griffin Road, Galway, does not arise at the present time. The position is that the County Galway Vocational Educational Committee have applied for a major extension to the school which would include a science laboratory. Planning for this extension is at an early stage.
