Vol. 336 No. 7

Written Answers. - Departmental Fees Revenue.

451.

asked the Minister for Labour the approximate amount of additional revenue which would accrue to his Department this year if all the fees charged by it had been increased fully in line with inflation since they were introduced.

Fees charged by the Department of Labour arise in respect of licences under the Employment Agency Act, 1971, petroleum spirit licences under the Dangerous Substances Act, 1972, and negotiation licences under the Trade Union Act, 1941. The fee in respect of licences under the Employment Agency Act, 1971, was increased from £5 each to £100 each in 1979. The fees for petroleum spirit licences were fixed in 1979.

In each of the original fees had been increased regularly in line with the cost of living index, less revenue would have been collected by the Department than has been received over the total period involved.
