asked the Minister for Education if he will state in regard to the provision of the new second level school for boys at Kells, County Meath (a) if a site has been purchased; (b) if architects have been appointed; (c) if briefing sessions have been held with the design team; (d) if planning permission has been obtained; (e) the system of management of the school; (f) if a sports hall is included in the plans; and (g) when work on the school is likely to commence.

Having obtained a site for a new community school for boys at Kells, County Meath and appointed a design team, a briefing session to initiate the architectural planning of the project has been held.

Physical education facilities will be provided in the new school, in respect of which the requirements of the planning authorities are being complied with.

The school will be conducted by a board of management under the terms of the deed of trust for community schools. At this early stage of planning it is not possible to state when construction work will be commenced.

asked the Minister for Education the present position in regard to the provision of new school buildings at Duleek, County Meath; when the detailed sketch schemes and cost plans were submitted by the chairman and architect; and the action taken since then.

I understand that sketch-schemes and cost plans in respect of the boys' and girls' national school projects at Duleek, County Meath, were received by the Commissioners of Public Works from the chairman's architect on 31 March 1981. Following approval of the sketch-scheme by the commissioners and my Department and agreement on the amount of the local contribution grants were sanctioned on the 21 October 1981.

The preparation of working drawings was authorised by the commissioners on 21 October 1981. Completed working drawings were received by the commissioners for the girls' school on 3 March 1982 and for the boys' school on 30 March 1982. The commissioners, following the normal consultation with my Department, authorised the preparation of bills of quantities on 22 June 1982 and, on completion of the bills, the invitation of tenders.

asked the Minister for Education when the sketch plans for the extension to Batterstown national school, County Meath, were completed by the Office of Public Works; and the action taken since then in regard to the building of the extension.

Sketch-plans prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works for an extension to Batterstown National School, County Meath, were submitted to my Department in November 1980. The sketch-plans were subsequently approved and the local contribution was agreed with the reverend chairman. The relocation of the septic tank is receiving consideration at present. A grant towards the cost of the project will be sanctioned at an early date.
