Vol. 336 No. 7

Written Answers. - Bounty for Octogenarians.

509.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will consider introducing a ministerial bounty to be paid to all citizens on becoming octogenarians, as this is unlikely to cost the State a great deal of money; and if he will make a statement.

Provision already exists for the payment by the Minister for Social Welfare of an additional weekly amount to the recipients of certain long term social welfare payments on reaching age 80. There are no plans to introduce additional payments to persons reaching that age.
