Vol. 337 No. 1

Written Answers. - Donegal Roads Repair.

656.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware that the estimated cost of frost damage to Donegal roads has been put at a minimum of £750,000; and if, in view of the chronic need for urgent and immediate attention to return the roads to a normal state, he will make a special grant available to the county council.

I am not so aware. The estimates of abnormal expenditure consequent on the blizzard conditions in January of this year, submitted by Donegal County Council are very substantially less than the sum mentioned by the Deputy.

As I have already indicated to the House, I will be seeking approval to a Supplementary Estimate which will include a subhead to provide funds for payment to local authorities towards certain abnormal costs incurred by them as a result of the blizzard conditions which prevailed in January of this year.
