Vol. 337 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Galway Construction Projects.

1.

asked the Taoiseach if he will give details of construction projects funded by his Department to be undertaken in County Galway during 1982; and if he will state in each case the amount provided in the 1982 estimates.

My Department will not be funding any construction project in County Galway in 1982.

May we take it that this is an effort by Deputy Molloy to prevent the Government from making foolish promises in the coming Galway by-election, as they did in Dublin West — an example was the promised drainage of the Shannon and the promise of new community centres and new schools — especially in view of the fact that we have not yet been told where the £45 million for PRSI is coming from? May we take it that there will be no foolish promises and that Deputy Molloy is trying to prevent that?

We will take a bet if anyone wants to bet on who will win.

Yes, how much?

The Government will not have to wait this time.

Bets can be discussed on the Order of Business, but not at Question Time.

May we take it that this is an effort on the part of Deputy Molloy and that wing of Fianna Fáil——

Cheap publicity.

There is no need to talk about publicity. These are the men who are stabbing them in the back. They are a divided party.

Would the Minister inform the House if it is true that the Office of Public Works have been especially instructed by the Minister to spend the next three weeks in Galway East to carry out works which have been on the books for the last five years?

I do not know, but if the Deputy would put down a question, the Office of the Public Works will let him know.

Could I ask if the Taoiseach's Office are in receipt of representations from the Construction Industry Federation and other bodies as to the small number of construction projects being funded in County Galway?

I am not aware of that, but I will check and will let the Deputy know.
