asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received the revised preliminary report for the Oranmore sewerage scheme from Galway County Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter outlining the reasons for the delay since 1972 in proceeding with this scheme.

Preliminary proposals for the Oranmore sewerage scheme were received in my Department in May 1981 and have been approved in principle. This approval was subject to Galway County Council carrying out further investigations. These investigations have been the subject of a number of discussions between my Department's and the council's technical staff. The results of the investigations were submitted to my Department on 28 June 1982 and are under examination at present. If the results of the investigations prove satisfactory, the council may proceed to prepare contract documents for the scheme.
