Vol. 337 No. 1

Written Answers. - Potato Imports.

477.

andMr. Hegarty asked the Minister for Agriculture the steps he proposes to take to protect Irish potato growers against unnecessary imports of potatoes.

Imports of potatoes from third countries are permitted only under licence. Applications for licences are considered in the light of the supply situation on the home market and so far this year no licences have been granted. Imports of potatoes produced in other member states may not, of course, be restricted.
