Vol. 337 No. 1

Written Answers. - Charter Flights.

487.

asked the Minister for Transport if he will allay the concern at Shannon by instructing that there will be no overflights of Shannon by charter flights returning to Dublin.

It is established Government policy that Shannon Airport is Ireland's sole trans-Atlantic gateway. No change in this policy is envisaged. Under this policy, all designated scheduled carriers operating between North-America and Ireland are obliged to serve Shannon Airport in both directions on scheduled services. The requirement for charter carriers is and has been for a number of years that one stop must be made at Shannon on either the eastbound or westbound sector. All charter carriers currently operating North America—Ireland services fully comply with these requirements.
