Vol. 337 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

420.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason for the delay in paying grants under the farm modernisation scheme to a person (details supplied) in Drimoleague, County Cork, who has agreed to accept a lower rate of grant on the basis of the non-availability of farm accounts.

The applicant is classified as a development farmer and is therefore required to keep farm accounts for each year of his plan.

However, as the Deputy has now indicated that the applicant will not meet this requirement and is prepared to forego the development rate of grant, arrangements will be made for payment of the grant at the lower rate.

421.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange to pay a farm grant in respect of farm buildings to a person (details supplied) in Mallow, County Cork.

The work in this case was certified only recently. The grant will be paid shortly.

422.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will arrange to pay a headage grant to a person (details supplied) in County Cork.

It is a condition of the cattle headage scheme that an applicant must occupy and farm 7.5 acres. The person named applied for cattle headage in 1981 and claimed he had rented 14 acres. He has been asked to supply documentary evidence in support of this claim. When he does so, he will be paid the cattle headage grant provided he satisfies the other terms and conditions of the scheme.

423.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason for the delay in paying the balance of a sum of £1,750 which is due to a person (details supplied) in Killarney, County Kerry, in respect of EEC cattle and sheep headage grants in view of the fact that he has 70 acres of arable land and a one third share of 276 acres of mountain land.

The maximum number of livestock units on which an applicant under the cattle headage and sheep headage schemes in the disadvantaged areas could be paid in 1981 was 30. On this basis the total grants payable to the person named was £1,386.10

He was paid £754.40 on 22 December 1981 in respect of 25.8 cattle livestock units and £266 on 27 February 1982 in respect of 4.2 sheep livestock units. As it would have been more favourable for the applicant to have been paid on his sheep units first, the case was reviewed. Arising from this a further £365.70 was paid on 3 June 1982. The overall amount paid was £1,386.10, £921.50 in respect of 14.55 sheep units and £464.60 in respect of 15.45 cattle units.
