Vol. 337 No. 2

Written Answers. - Western Health Board Patient Transport.

465.

asked the Minister for Health if his Department approve of the new arrangements for transport to hospitals and clinics as outlined in the circular issued to the Western Health Board dated 19 May 1982; if he is aware of the hardship that this change will cause for elderly patients in remote areas; and if he will make a statement on this matter.

The arrangements for patient transport services in the Western Health Board area are a matter for that board and consequently the question of approval of these arrangements by my Department does not arise. I have, however, had inquiries made of the Western Health Board in this matter. The board have reviewed their services in the light of the current financial situation and have introduced some restrictions in the patient transport service since 7 June 1982. The Western Health Board are satisfied that these revised arrangements are adequate to cater for all genuine emergency cases and to relieve any cases of genuine hardship which might arise.
