507.

asked the Minister for Health when a second permanent paediatrician which was sanctioned by Comhairle na hOspideál on 1 May 1980 at Tullamore General Hospital, County Offaly, will be appointed.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 506 and 507 together.

These two posts are among a number of consultant posts approved by Comhairle na hOspidéal, the filling of which has to be considered in the light of the funds available. I am not in a position to say when funds will be made available to enable the health board to make these appointments.

508.

asked the Minister for Health the present position in regard to the 45-bed medical unit at Tullamore General Hospital, County Offaly.

Planning documentation in respect of the proposed 45-bed unit is currently under examination in my Department. The previous Government made no financial provision for this scheme for 1982. I am keeping it in mind in the light of the capital resources being made available to my Department.

509.

asked the Minister for Health when he anticipates that work will commence on the new theatre suite at Tullamore General Hospital, County Offaly; if tenders have been received to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Tenders for the scheme have been received but the previous Government made no provision in the capital programme for commencement of work on this scheme this year. I am examining the general situation regarding my Departments capital programme to see when it will be possible to allow this project to go ahead.
