Vol. 337 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Meeting with British Minister.

22.

asked the Minister for Justice if he intends to meet the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland or his representative soon.

No such meeting has been arranged.

Would the Minister not consider it appropriate to either seek a meeting or indicate that he is willing to meet the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland or his representative.

There has not been any such meeting arranged.

My question to the Minister was: would he not consider it appropriate that he should do this, not alone for security reasons vis-à-vis subversion, but because Donegal and the Border areas are seething with rumour of drugs coming across the Border. Would the Minister not consider it appropriate and necessary that there be a meeting between himself and his counterpart in Northern Ireland to go over all of these matters when people's lives and welfare are at stake?

I will give consideration to the Deputy's suggestion.
