Vol. 337 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dental Benefit.

352.

asked the Minister for Health the action he proposes to take to provide free dental benefit for a child (details supplied) in Carrigtwohill, County Cork, in view of the likely delay in the matter.

Emergency dental treatment, for example to relieve pain, is available on demand in the area in which the child referred to in the question resides. Comprehensive routine treatment of the type required by the child can, however, only be provided through referral from school health examinations. Improvement in the frequency of these examinations in the area is necessary but cannot be achieved until a new two-surgery dental clinic is provided in Midleton to replace the existing single surgery one there. The new clinic will be provided as soon as the financial situation permits.
