Vol. 337 No. 4

Written Answers. - Donegal Hydro-Electric Schemes.

394.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if he has any immediate plans to extend hydro-electricity schemes in Donegal with special reference to Gweedore and Ballyshannon.

I am informed by the ESB that they have no plans to extend either of their hydro schemes at Clady in Gweedore and Ballyshannon, County Donegal, and that the water flow in the rivers Clady and Erne respectively, is being fully used in the existing stations.

A grant has been provided under my Department's small hydro demonstration scheme to a hydro electric generating project at Glenties, County Donegal. This is part of an established demonstration scheme and it is not planned to extend it.

My Department are involved in a national survey of hydro potential which will include County Donegal. The survey will take approximately two to three years and is designed to provide a complete picture of national hydro resources.
