Vol. 337 No. 4

Written Answers. - Inter-Departmental Committees.

454.

asked the Minister for Labour if he will give details of the composition, purpose, date of appointment and frequency of meetings of each inter-departmental committee in which his Department are involved; and if the committees have produced or will produce a written report on their work.

The only inter-Departmental committee for which my Department are primarily responsible is the inter-Departmental Committee on the Employment of Disabled Persons in the Public Service which was set up in January, 1978, and meets approximately four times a year.

The purpose of the committee is to promote the implementation of the 3 per cent employment quota system for disabled persons for which I have general responsibility. In addition, the committee monitors the progress of the quota system.

The committee is composed of representatives of all Government Departments together with representatives of the Civil Service Commission, the Office of Public Works and the Revenue Commissioners. The committee's work is ongoing and it reports to me on a continuing basis. Officers of the Department of Labour also participate in other inter-departmental committees which will be covered in replies of other Ministers.
