Written Answers. - Inter-Departmental Committees.

asked the Minister for Transport if he will give details of the composition, purpose, date of appointment and frequency of meetings of each inter-departmental committee in which his Department are involved; and if the committees have produced or will produce a written report on their work.

The information requested by the Deputy is as follows:

1.Inter-Departmental Committee on Regional and Local Airports and Air Services

Departments of Transport (4) Finance (1) Gaeltacht (1) Environment (1) Industry and Energy (1), Trade, Commerce and Tourism (1)

To review arrangements for establishing, equipping and financing regional and local airports and air services and to make recommendations for future policy.

The decision to establish the Committee was taken in April 1981. The first meeting was held on 10 June 1981. Meetings are held once every five to six weeks on average.

The Committee will submit a written report to the Minister for Transport on completion of its task.

2.Inter-Departmental Committee on the B & I Co. Ltd.

Transport (6) Finance (2) Trade, Commerce and Tourism (1)

To examine the financial and operating performance of the B & I over a five year period; and to review the role of the company and to recommend any changes in policy that may be necessary to secure the most effective contribution by the company to the Irish economy.

The decision to establish the Committee was taken in April 1981. The first meeting was held on 3 June 1981. The Committee met every two to three weeks on average up to January 1982. The Committee reconvened on 31 May and has met once since.

The Committee submitted a written interim Report to the Minister for Transport in January 1982 and will report again on completion of its task.

3.Inter-Departmental Committee on Safety of Fishing Vessels

To review regulations in regard to the safety of fishermen

The Committee was set up on 6 November 1981. The Committee commenced work on 14th January 1982. For staffing reasons it was necessary to defer meetings of the Committee temporarily for a period. The work has now been resumed and the next meeting is arranged for 2 July 1982.

The Committee will submit a written report to the Minister for Transport and the Minister for Fisheries and Forestry on the completion of its task.

My Department is also represented on other inter-departmental Committees which are the responsibility of other Ministers. It is assumed that details of these Committees will be given in the replies of the appropriate Ministers.
