Vol. 337 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Africa No-Visa Arrangement.

13.

asked the Minister for Justice whether he plans to go ahead with the commitment to rescind the no-visa arrangement with South Africa; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I think that I should make it clear, for the record, that I have made no commitment to rescind the no-visa arrangement with South Africans. The Deputy, when he was Minister for Justice indicated to a deputation from the Irish Anti-Apartheid Movement that he would place a memorandum before the Government recommending that South African citizens would in future require a visa to visit this country and, on that basis, the question is being examined by my Department and the Department of Foreign Affairs.
