Vol. 337 No. 5

Written Answers. - Dublin VEC School.

644.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware of a recent serious incident at 1 Parnell Square which is the address of a Dublin City VEC school; if he is aware that the dangerous condition of the building has been exacerbated by the fact that despite repeated representations to his Department, the necessary finance to ensure that this building conforms to acceptable safety standards has not been sanctioned by his Department; and if this money will be made available in view of the seriousness of the situation.

Presumably the incident to which the Deputy refers was the collapse of a wall at Parnell Square Vocational School last May while works were being carried out on the construction of an office block for Dublin County Council on property adjoining the school.

My Department has not refused to make financial provision to enable the building to be brought up to acceptable safety standards and, in fact, arrangements are being made for such purpose.
