asked the Minister for Finance if he will now state arising out of parliamentary question No. 690 of 29 June 1982 which was addressed to the Minister for the Gaeltacht, that he agrees that the figure of £41,791,000 shown by Account No. XXVII of the Finance Accounts (page 56) is the correct amount due by Údarás na Gaeltachta to the Exchequer on 1 January 1980 and that no repayment or write-off of any part of £41,791,000 was approved by him as at 31 December 1980.

The Finance Accounts reflect the position as at 31 December in the year covered by the accounts. Account No. XXVII of the 1979 Finance Accounts shows that a sum of £41,791,000 was advanced to Gaeltarra Eireann as at 31 December 1979. This liability was transferred to Údarás na Gaeltachta under section 7 (i) of the Údarás na Gaeltachta Act, 1979, with effect from 1 January 1980 and then became due to the Exchequer by the Údarás. No repayment was made, nor had any write-off been authorised by the Minister for Finance, in respect of any part of the £41,791,000, as at 31 December 1980.
