Vol. 337 No. 7

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

342.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when a widow's non-contributory pension will be paid to a person (details supplied) in Blarney, County Cork.

The person concerned is in receipt of a widow's non-contributory pension at a reduced rate, appropriate to a widow with one qualified child, on the basis of her means derived from the letting of a shop. Following receipt of representations on her behalf from the Deputy for an increase in her widow's pension a further investigation of her means is being carried out. When these are completed the rate of pension payable in her case will be reviewed.

345.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he is aware that an application for a non-contributory old age pension was made three months ago by persons (details supplied) in County Galway and although they have been interviewed by the social welfare officer, they have not yet received a decision on their applications; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The claim for a non-contributory old age pension which was received on 14 April 1982 from the older member of the couple concerned has been investigated by the social welfare officer and referred to the local pension committee for decision.

Pension at the maximum rate, including an allowance for the claimant's wife, who has not yet attained pensionable age, has been recommended. A pension order book payable from 16 April 1982 at the appropriate rate of £51.75 a week has been issued on a provisional basis pending the pension committee's decision on the claim.
