353.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will give an assurance that all effective FCA personnel attached to Western Command FCA 5th Regiment, 4th Battery, Galway, 13th Battery, Tuam and the 7th Battery, Gort will be given the option of attending annual training; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 351 to 353 inclusive, together. It is necessary to maintain strict control on the numbers of FCA personnel who may be called for training and the length of training periods in individual cases during 1982 having regard to the provision in the Defence Vote 1982, for training of An Forsa Cosanta Áitiúil. Annual training for 1982 is for the normal period of two weeks and additional courses are being restricted in order to ensure that the maximum numbers can avail of annual training. The extent to which the available resources will permit personnel to be afforded training this year is being kept under constant review with the objective of facilitating as many such members as possible.

These considerations apply to all units including the individual units referred to by the Deputy.
