Written Answers. - Telephone Service.

421.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will connect a subscriber (details supplied) in County Galway to Loughrea telephone exchange.

There is no spare circuit available at present to enable the subscriber named to be given an out-of-area connection to Loughrea exchange. An application has been recorded and he will be contacted if it becomes practicable to meet it before conversion of Tynagh exchange to automatic working, which is expected in 1984.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that telephones in the Glasnevin Park area of Dublin have been out of order for the past two weeks; and if he will confirm that remedial action will be taken immediately.

Service will be restored as soon as possible but this may take a week or so because of the large number of faults on hands.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the number and location of public telephone kiosks to be erected in County Wicklow by his Department this year and in 1983.

The information required by the Deputy regarding the location of kiosks is set out below. The statement shows the location of the places where it is expected that kiosks will be provided during 1982 and the years 1983-84.

Because of the large amount of work involved it is not practicable at this stage to give more precise information as to when each kiosk will be provided.

Kiosks listed for provision in 1982: Coolatin, Shillelagh; Merrymeeting, Rathnew (provided); Rockypool Crescent, Blessington; Coolruss, Tinahely; Coolatin Row, Carnew.

Kiosks listed for provision in 1983-84: Cranford; Ballyraheen; Corke Abbey, Bray; Crab Lane, Coolkenno; Enniskerry; Cranabeg, Valleymount; O'Neill Park, Newtownmountkennedy; Ballyknockan, Valleymount; Beechdale Estate, Kilcoole; Woodbrook Estate, Bray; Churchill, Dunlavin; Kilcarra, Arklow; Killinure; Parkmore, Baltinglass.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when telephone and telex services will be restored for a person (details supplied) in Clontarf, Dublin 3, as his business depends on it; and if he will give assurances that the flooding which caused the breakdown will be permanently rectified.

A programme of preventive maintenance designed to improve the reliability of the underground cabling network and so reduce the incidence of faults arising from flooding is in hands. It is expected that substantial improvements will be effected this year, with priority being given to areas with the highest liability to damage in this way; but because of the volume of work involved, it will take quite some time.

429.

(Donegal South-West) asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when a telephone service will be provided for a person (details supplied) in Dungloe, County Donegal.
