Vol. 337 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Galway Roads.

507.

asked the Minister for the Environment if there are plans to rectify the dreadful road conditions in the County Galway area in order to render them safe; and if any money has been allocated to solve this problem.

It is a function of each road authority to plan their road programme consistent with the resources available to them. The total of road grants allocated to Galway County Council was increased from £1,880,000 in 1980, to £3,517,000 in the current year, a virtual doubling of the 1980 allocation. There are many important and worthwhile improvement schemes proceeding throughout the county with the aid of these grants. I hope that this progress will be maintained in future years.
