Vol. 337 No. 8

Estimates, 1982. - Vote 41: Trade, Commerce and Tourism.

I move:

That a sum not exceeding £93,682,000 be granted to defray the charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of December, 1982, for the salaries and expenses of the Office of the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism, including certain services administered by that Office, and for payment of certain subsidies, grants and grants-in-aid.

Could the Minister say in respect of this Department whether it is anticipated that they will be participating in the savings target of £45 million on public Departments and, if so, in what area?

This is one of the Department that have been asked to put forward proposals for savings and some savings are in fact anticipated.

In the area of staff or other areas?

Staff and other areas. No restriction has been placed on the areas in which economies will be sought.

Vote put and agreed to.
