Vol. 337 No. 9

Written Answers. - Clare Industry Site.

695.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if the industrial promotion agencies have any proposals to site an industry in Sixmilebridge, County Clare, where a company closed (details supplied) and where there are now over one hundred people idle.

Both the Industrial Development Authority and Shannon Development Company are promoting the Sixmilebridge area of County Clare for suitable industry.

The IDA has made intensive efforts to find a replacement industry for Ix (Ireland) Ltd. A large number of overseas companies were contacted in an effort to identify one which would be interested in the Ix plant. No proposals have emerged to date. However, the IDA is continuing its efforts to find a replacement industry.

As regards Shannon Development Company, the full range of the company's assistance programmes is on offer to promoters of suitable small manufacturing industries who wish to establish in the area. In addition, Shannon Development's Senior Field Officer and the Clare County Development Officer are available to advise on the establishment of small industry projects in Sixmilebridge.
