The all-Party Informal Committee of the Oireachtas on Administrative Justice felt that the proposal to establish a Commissioner for Administrative Justice paid too little attention to the requirements of the Oireachtas and recommended instead the appointment of an Ombudsman who would report to the Oireachtas. Legislation giving effect to that recommendation has been enacted. I hope to be in a position to put the necessary resolutions for the appointment of the Ombudsman to both Houses in the near future.
