asked the Taoiseach the actual percentage change in each item included in the consumer price index from mid-March 1982 to the latest available date.

The consumer price index is calculated in respect of mid-February, mid-May, mid-August and mid-November each year. The following table shows the percentage change in each item included in the index between mid-February 1982 and mid-May 1982.

The percentage price changes for all items and the actual price changes for food items distinguished in the consumer price index are given in the following tables. The actual price changes are available only for those food items where identical varieties and quantities are priced in all areas and meaningful national average prices can be calculated.
