Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - St. James's Hospital (Dublin) Security.

320.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware of fears expressed by the staff of St. James's Hospital, Dublin in regard to the escalation of crime and violence in the hospital complex; the steps he is taking to deal with the problem; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the fears expressed by members of the hospital staff. Security at St. James's Hospital is a matter for the hospital authority in the first instance. I understand that measures designed to restrict and control access within the hospital area have already been introduced by the hospital authority. Proposals for further measures to deal with the problem are being examined by my Department and a meeting has been arranged between the hospital authority and officials of my Department to discuss these proposals.
