Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - Nitrigin Éireann Teo.

384.

asked the Minister for Industry and Energy how much of NET's current debt total of £177 million is guaranteed by his Department; if he was aware that NET had hired a management consultancy firm to advise them on their current trading position; if he has received a copy of the consultant's report; and, if so, when that report will be available.

Under the Nitrigin Éireann Teoranta Acts, 1963 to 1981, I am empowered to guarantee borrowings by the company up to a limit of £150 million. At 30 June, 1982 NET's guaranteed borrowings, as defined under the Acts, stood at £148 million approximately.

I understand that NET have not commissioned any management consultancy firm to specifically advise them on their current trading position. However the company have employed two separate firms of consultants over the past couple of years, one to advise on marketing strategies for the eighties and the other to advise on organisation at the company's plants and management structures. Copies of these consultancy reports were made available to me by the company.
