asked the Minister for Industry and Energy the steps he proposes to take to deal with the unprecedented and unannounced overnight closure of Gerritsen Copper and Brass, Limited factory, Carndonagh; if he is aware of the fact that employees of this factory have wages cheques that are not being honoured; and if he will take the steps necessary to ensure that the factory is re-opened and that workers in the undertaking will not be at any loss.

I have been advised by the IDA of the sudden closure of the factory in question and of the consequences for the workers. I deplore very much what has happened in this case and, with a view to alleviating the position of the workers, I have asked the IDA to take all possible steps to bring about a resumption of manufacturing in the factory.
