Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - Dublin City Housing.

410.

asked the Minister for the Environment whether he is satisfied that the Government's target for housing in Dublin city, particularly in the inner city areas, will be fully facilitated and in no way adversely affected by the provision of essential drainage and water schemes being carried out particularly in the county area; and if he is aware that delays with respect to the latter will have an adverse effect on housing output.

The planning and execution of local authority housing schemes in Dublin city, including the inner city, is primarily the responsibility of Dublin Corporation as housing authority. Because sanitary services constraints could adversely affect achievement of the corporation's housing targets, I have recently taken steps to facilitate housing and other developments in Dublin city and county by approving six public water and sewerage schemes proposed by the corporation and county council with the estimated total value of over £16 million. I am continuing to keep sanitary services proposals under review with the object of ensuring, as far as possible, that sanitary services required to cater for the corporation's housing programme are provided.
