Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - Staff on £9.60 Scheme.

442.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in regard to each of the sixty-three staff taken on in respect of the £9.60 scheme (a) the date of recruitment in each case, (b) the grades involved and (c) the work to which they have now been allocated; how the recruitment of staff can be reconciled with the embargo on recruitment and the application of the rule in regard to the non-filling of vacancies in the public service, given that the scheme for which they were recruited has been abandoned; and the total annualised cost of the staff salaries involved.

The staff sanctioned in respect of the £9.60 scheme and the date of recruitment are as follows:

1 Senior Inspector of Taxes

appointed by promotion

19/1/1982

2 Inspectors of Taxes, Higher Grade

appointed by promotion

22/1/1982

2 Inspectors of Taxes

appointed by promotion

22/1/1982

1 Systems Analyst (HEO)

appointed by promotion

21/12/1981

5 Executive Officers

recruited through Civil Service Commission

9/2/1982

52 Clerical Assistants

recruited through Civil Service Commission as follows:

4 on 26/1/1982

1 on 11/2/1982

4 on 17/2/1982

7 on 18/2/1982

3 on 24/2/1982

11 on 2/3/1982

8 on 3/3/1982

8 on 9/3/1982

6 on 10/3/1982

All of the staff recurited in connection with the £9.60 scheme have been redeployed to fill vacancies which were not affected by the embargo on staff. These vacancies were in PAYE districts, in the office of the Collector General and in the computer division.

Arrangements had already been made with the Civil Service Commission for the recruitment of the staff concerned prior to the decision to abandon the scheme.

The annualised cost of the salaries of the sixty-three staff in question is £339,608, i.e. the full year cost of salaries by reference to the level of salaries obtaining on 1 March 1982.
