Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - Dublin Barracks Married Quarters.

519.

asked the Minister for Defence if he is aware of the inadequate living conditions of the Dublin families resident in the married quarters in Arbour Hill Barracks, Dublin, and the steps he will take to improve conditions there as a matter of urgency.

The provision of housing is primarily a matter for the local authorities and married soldiers have an equal claim on such housing with other members of the community in the same category. Representations have been made by my Department to Dublin Corporation on behalf of the occupants of the married quarters at Arbour Hill who have applied to the corporation for re-housing.

As the quarters at Arbour Hill become vacant they will not be re-allocated except in so far as may be necessary to facilitate the evacuation of a particular block of quarters. It is proposed to demolish each block of quarters as it becomes vacant.
