Vol. 337 No. 11

Written Answers. - EEC Orders to Printing Works.

95.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he has satisfied himself with the allocation of printing orders to printing works in this country by the EEC in Brussels; and if he will endeavour to have the present orders vastly improved in view of the large printing requirements of the Community and the need for employment in the printing industry in this country.

Printing contracts are awarded by the EEC on the basis of competitive tenders drawn from a current list of over 1,000 printing firms. Any printer who applies is entitled to be included in the list. The list includes a number of Irish printing firms which have successfully tendered for a number of recent contracts.

The European Office of Official Publications is currently in the process of revising its list of printers. In this context an official of the EPO came to Dublin on 22 April 1982 in order to meet representatives of the Irish printing industry.
