The latest information available on the number of persons on the live register relates to 24 September 1982. On that date the number of persons on the live register in Waterford city employment exchange was 3,597. At the corresponding dates in 1981 and 1980 the figures were 2,868 and 2,317 respectively. For the other local employment offices in County Waterford the aggregate live register totals on the same dates were 962, 807 and 706 respectively.
Could the Minister of State give me those figures as a percentage of the work force?
I do not have the percentages but I can get them for the Deputy.
Would the Minister of State be in a position to give me the unemployment figures for Waterford city as compared with last year?

On 26 August 1977 the aggregate number of persons on the live register at local employment offices in County Roscommon was 977. The corresponding aggregate on 27 August 1982 was 1,431.
Do the figures given cover the people from Roscommon who are registered as unemployed in Athlone, Ballinasloe and Carrick-on-Shannon?
If they are registered in County Roscommon area.
There are people who live in Roscommon but are registered in these other exchanges. The figures I asked for are those for people unemployed in County Roscommon.
If they are on the live register at local employment offices in Roscommon, then they are included in that figure.
I can take it from the reply that in fact those people are not included and that the real unemployment figure for the county is much higher than the one given. What steps have the Government in hand to establish jobs in Roscommon?
I am sure that if the Deputy puts down a question to the Minister for Industry or the Minister for Labour the statistical information will be provided.

All the Government did was to supply Roscommon with two State cars instead of jobs.
