Vol. 338 No. 1

Written Answers. - Coolock (Dublin) Garda Strength.

412.

asked the Minister for Justice if he has satisfied himself with the present Garda strength in Coolock Garda Station, Dublin; and the proposals he has to improve that strength.

413.

asked the Minister for Justice, if, in view of the recent increase in vandalism in the Coolock area, Dublin; he will appoint extra gardaí to the Coolock station.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 412 and 413 together.

The detailed deployment of members of the force is a matter to be decided primarily by the Garda authorities and the strength assigned to the various stations is reviewed from time to time to take account of changing needs and circumstances.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that 16 new recruits were allocated to Coolock station since 1 August 1982, representing a net increase of 12 in the strength of the station party there. The police needs of the area will be further considered according as the extra gardaí now being recruited become available for assignment.
