Vol. 338 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Antibiotic Residues in Milk.

14.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the level of antibiotic residues detected in milk supplies for human consumption; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

In the period January-June 1982, 1,342 samples were taken by officers of my Department from the milk supplies of the holders of pasteurisers' licences and 251 of these showed the presence of antibiotic residues. The Poisons Regulations 1982, which are to come into operation in March next, provide for control of the outlets through which antibiotics may be sold for use in the treatment of animals.
