185.

asked the Minister for the Environment where the four stations involved in the monitoring of lead content in air in the Dublin region are located; the number of people employed at the stations and the frequency and times of the monitoring and the heights above ground level at which the measurements are made.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 184 and 185 together.

Dublin Corporation operate six lead monitoring stations. The question of introducing monitoring in Cork has been taken up with the local authority there. Monitoring in Dublin is on a continuous basis and is in accordance with a reference method recommended by the EEC. The locations and the heights over ground of the intake points are as follows: O'Connell Street, 1.3 metres; Dame Street, 2 metres; Pearse Street, 3 metres; Kilbarrack, 3 metres; Alexandra Quay, 3 metres; Ringsend, 2 metres.

Three health inspectors and a laboratory technician are involved in the monitoring programme on a part-time basis.
