Vol. 338 No. 3

Written Answers. - Tallaght (Dublin) Crime Level.

592.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will take immediate steps to deal with the recent increase in the level of crime and vandalism in the Tallaght area of County Dublin.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that the increase in the level of crime and vandalism in the Tallaght area is a matter of particular concern and that a number of steps have been taken to deal with the situation.

Nineteen extra gardaí have been allocated to Tallaght station since April 1982 representing a net increase of 17 in the overall strength at the centre as at 31 December 1981. The question of further increasing the strength will be considered according as the additional manpower currently in training becomes available. Garda transport facilities in the area have also been expanded.

In addition, special attention continues to be paid to the area by the Crime Task Force, based at Garda Headquarters, which is called out to supplement the local policing arrangements in any area of the Dublin Metropolitan Area as the need arises.
