asked the Minister for Justice the details surrounding the withholding of a Garda widow's pension (details supplied) in County Dublin; and if he will recommend that payment be recommenced immediately as non-payment is causing considerable distress.

I am informed by the Paymaster General's Office that payment of this pension was withheld for certain reasons but they are reasons which I would consider inappropriate to disclose publicly as they are of a private family nature. I should make it clear that it was a decision of the Paymaster General's Office, not of my Department.
I am also informed that there are conflicting interests involved and that the parties concerned have their own legal advisers. At the moment certain proceedings have been commenced in the High Court which should have the effect of resolving the difficulties as far as payment of pension is concerned.
