Vol. 338 No. 3

Written Answers. - Social Welfare Benefits.

144.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason a social welfare allowance is not being paid to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

The person concerned has been in receipt of unemployment assistance continuously from 1975 except for odd days of casual employment. Following a re-assessment of his means payment was terminated from 18 August 1982, on the grounds that his means derived from the sale of timber exceeded the statutory limit. He appealed against this decision and following a further investigation it was revised and payment of unemployment assistance was again allowed. All arrears due, less advances of supplementary welfare allowance, has been paid to him.

145.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare the reason for the delay in paying pension moneys to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford.

The person concerned claimed widow's contributory pension following the death of her husband on 25 September 1981. As her late husband had been in receipt of disability benefit at the rate of £69.65 a week, payment of benefit at this rate was continued for six weeks after his death. On the expiration of this period she was awarded widow's contributory pension at £71.50 a week, the maximum rate appropriate to a widow with five qualified children. A cheque for £11.10 representing the difference between the amount of widow's pension to which she was entitled and the amount of disability benefit which she received during the six weeks period, has now been issued to her. The delay in payment was due to an administrative error.
