Vol. 338 No. 3

Written Answers. - Road Development Plan.

563.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will state in relation to the Government's White Paper The Way Forward, which was published on Thursday, 21st October, 1982, what the total estimated cost of the Road Development Plan is in 1983 prices; what the cost of its partial implementation to date has been in 1983 prices; and the proportion of this plan which will remain to be completed at the end of 1987 with a costing in 1983 prices.

It is assumed that the Deputy's question relates only to the capital element of the Road Development Plan for the 1980s in respect of which expenditure projections were set out in the White Paper.

The total estimated cost of the programme of improvement works envisaged in the Road Development Plan is approximately £1,088 millions at 1983 prices. The value in 1983 terms of the provisions made to finance this programme in the public capital programmes for 1980, 1981 and 1982 is £214.578 millions. Approximately 26 per cent of the programme will remain to be implemented after 1987 at an estimated cost of approximately £287 millions in 1983 terms.
