Vol. 338 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Connemara (Galway) Roads.

261.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the very poor condition of the roads in Connemara, County Galway, and if he is prepared to allocate money to have them repaired up to an acceptable standard.

262.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the very poor condition of the roads in the South Connemara area; and if he is prepared to provide the necessary finance to have these roads repaired up to an acceptable standard.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 261 and 262 together. In 1982, grants totalling £395,000 were allocated specifically for works on national and main roads serving Connemara. I will bear in mind the future needs of these roads in my consideration of grants in 1983. The responsibility of providing for other road works in the areas mentioned rests on Galway County Council.
