Vol. 338 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Defective Premises.

272.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has received from the Law Reform Commission a copy of their Report No. LRC 3/1982 on defective premises; if he proposes to introduce legislation based on their Draft Bill entitled "Defective Premises Bill, 1982"; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

273.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he is aware of the considerable disquiet that has been expressed by members of the building industry in relation to the present legal situation regarding the liability of builders, designers, vendors and lessors for the quality and fitness of premises; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 272 and 273 together. I would refer the Deputy to the Government statement issued on 11 June last which stated that the Government had welcomed the submission of the report referred to and were arranging for it to be considered fully by the Departments concerned. The position is still essentially the same and it would not be appropriate for me to elaborate any further in the matter at the present time.
