Vol. 338 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Structural Guarantee Scheme.

274.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he has been in contact with the National House Building Guarantee Scheme Company Limited with a view to requesting that they extend their guarantee to cover not only the structure of houses built by their registered members but also any deposits or part payments made by prospective purchasers to such members who subsequently become insolvent or run into such financial diffculties that they are unable to complete the construction of houses and are similarly unable to repay deposits or part payments; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

As I indicated in my reply to Question No. 17 on 17 June 1982 the extension of the structural guarantee scheme to provide cover for prospective purchasers in respect of endangered deposits is primarily a matter for the National House Building Guarantee Company.

The matter has been pursued with the company by officials of my Department and I understand that such an extension is at present under active consideration.
