Vol. 338 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - School Grants and Subsidies.

355.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason for the delay in paying grants for work which was carried out in 1979 in national schools in Dromore and Dereeny in the parish of Caheragh, County Cork; and if he will now arrange for payment.

The position in relation to the two schools mentioned is as follows:—

(1) The accounts for the erection of Dromore National School have not yet been finalised but on the information at present available to the Commissioners of Public Works any amount due to the chairman of the board of management by way of grant would be considerably less than indicated by the Deputy. The Office of Public Works will be in touch shortly with the chairman with a view to resolving the matter.

(2) The chairman of the board of management of Dereeny National School, County Cork had a prefabricated classroom erected without the prior approval of the Office of Public Works or the Department of Education. The sanction of a grant by the Department of Education was subject to receipt of planning permission by the chairman. The Office of Public Works has asked the chairman to forward the planning permission and all vouchers in support of his application for a grant to enable it to deal with the question of payment.

A grant of £187 is being paid towards the cost of the sinking of a well at the school. Other minor works have been carried out by the chairman and he has been asked to forward vouchers in support of his grant application. On the information at present available the amount due to the chairman by way of grant would be considerably less than indicated by the Deputy.

356.
