asked the Minister for Industry and Energy if he will provide, in relation to the Government's White Paper The Way Forward which was published on Thursday, 21 October 1982, figures on the same basis as Tables 2 and 3 of Chapter VII for the years 1961, 1965, 1969, 1973 and 1977.

The information sought is set out below and is derived from information supplied to the OECD throughout the years spanning 1960-77.

*The primary energy equivalent of hydro electricity is assumed to be equal to average input per kWh of all conventional thermal power plants in any given year. Such power plants afforded much lower efficiencies during the earlier years quoted than they do today. In practice hydroelectric generating capacity has not changed to any significant extent over the years in question.
